Check your own website: six points in five minutes

Security, mobile, speed and findability. Six things you can check without technical knowledge, and what to do about them.

You do not need to be a developer to see whether your site is in order. Grab your phone and laptop and go through these points.

The padlock in the address bar

Type your address without https in front of it. Do you land on the secure version with a padlock automatically? If not, browsers show "not secure", which scares visitors off. A certificate is free to arrange these days.

Your site on your phone

Open your site on your phone. Do you have to zoom in to read text, or do buttons fall off the screen? Then the site is not set up for mobile, while many visitors look at it exactly there. Google also mainly looks at the mobile version of your site (Google's explanation).

How fast it loads

Open your site over 4G, not wifi. If it takes more than a few seconds before you see anything, visitors leave. Oversized photos are the most common cause. For a more detailed measurement, use Google's PageSpeed Insights.

How you appear in Google

Search for your company name. Are the title and the short description under your result right? You set those yourself. If you see a cut-off sentence or a random piece of text, the description is too long or missing.

How it looks when shared

Send your own address to yourself on WhatsApp. Do an image and a tidy title appear? If not, the site lacks the settings for sharing, and your link looks bare in every chat.

Whether people can reach you

Try your contact form yourself. Does the message arrive? Can you tap the phone number to call? A form that silently sends nothing is one of the most expensive mistakes a site can have: you only notice when clients stay away.

Prefer a report?

The free MDJI website check tests much of this automatically, plus technical points you cannot see yourself, such as image descriptions and extra connection security. Within minutes you receive a report with the three most important improvements.
