What does it cost to have an app built?

An app at MDJI starts at 1,500 euros. What determines the price, which costs come after the build and how to start small.

An app can be a simple tool for your own team, or a product thousands of customers use. That is why prices vary so much. Below you read what determines the price, which costs come after the build and how you can start small.

What does an app cost at MDJI?

WhatPriceFor
Demo 99 euros A working demo of the most important part, to experience your idea yourself
Mobile app from 1,500 euros From a first working version to a fully developed app in the stores
Web application from 750 euros Software in the browser, without installation
Maintenance from 50 euros per month Updates, security and help with outages, cancellable monthly

All amounts exclude VAT. For every app you receive a proposal with a fixed price and a schedule after the intake call. If you continue with the full project after the demo, the 99 euros is deducted.

What determines the price?

  • The number of screens and features. An app with a login, an overview and a form is different from an app with payments, chat and notifications.
  • Where the data lives. If users log in or share data, a server is also needed to store that data securely.
  • Integrations with other systems, such as a payment provider, your accounting or your own website. See integrations and APIs.
  • Whether you want a version to test first, or the full app straight away.
  • The design. An app that uses the phone's standard building blocks is ready sooner than an app with a completely custom look.

Which costs come after the build?

An app is not finished forever after delivery. Expect these recurring costs:

  • A developer account with Apple for the App Store, with a yearly fee (Apple Developer Program).
  • An account with Google for Google Play, with a one-time registration (Google Play Console).
  • Hosting for the server, if your app stores data or lets users log in.
  • Maintenance. Apple and Google release new versions of iOS and Android every year; an app has to keep up to keep working well.

Ask in every quote which of these costs are included, and in whose name the store accounts will be.

Starting small

Not sure your idea will catch on? Then do not build everything at once. There are three ways to start small:

  1. A demo for 99 euros, to experience the most important part yourself and show it internally.
  2. A first working version with only the core, to test with real users.
  3. A web application instead of an app. It runs in the browser, does not go through the stores and starts at a lower price. Also read web application or app.

How we approach it

  1. In the intake call we discuss what the app should do, for whom and what needs to be added later.
  2. You receive a proposal with a fixed price and a schedule within a few working days.
  3. During the build you follow along in a test environment, so you can adjust before anything is final.
  4. After payment the code is yours, with all access.
