How long does it take to have a website built?
At MDJI a business website is usually ready within three to six weeks. What drives the schedule and how you can save time yourself.
How long it takes depends less on the programming than you might think. Most of the lead time is in coordination: what goes on the site, who supplies the texts and how quickly responses to a test version come in. Below you see the steps, what drives the schedule and how you can save time yourself.
The steps from idea to launch
| Step | What happens | Whose turn |
|---|---|---|
| Intake call | Half an hour about your goals, your offer and your budget | Together |
| Proposal | A fixed price, a schedule and a description of what will be delivered, within a few working days | MDJI |
| Start | Agreement on the proposal and the deposit | You |
| Build with test versions | You follow along in a test environment at set moments and give feedback | Taking turns |
| Delivery | The site goes live, followed by a period of free aftercare | MDJI |
The three to six weeks for a business website cover the build with test versions. Read more about each step in the process.
What drives the schedule?
- The size: a one-page website is ready sooner than a website with a page per service.
- Features that do more than show text, such as a booking form or an integration with your accounting.
- Whether the texts and photos are ready, or still need to be written and made.
- How quickly feedback on a test version comes in, and how many correction rounds are needed.
- Other parties, such as transferring a domain name or access to a system that needs to be connected.
How you can save time
- Have your texts and photos ready, or agree who writes them and when.
- Decide beforehand who makes decisions. One point of contact on your side saves rounds.
- Respond to a test version within the agreed time, and bundle your comments.
- Keep new wishes during the build separate, and discuss them after launch. That way the schedule holds.
- Arrange access to your domain name and existing systems in time. Also read domain name and hosting.
Why a fast site sometimes takes longer
A site that is up quickly with a standard theme is not always a site that loads quickly or is found well. A few extra days for good texts, a page per service and the basics for Google pay for themselves afterwards. Also read WordPress or custom-built.
How we approach it
The schedule is in the proposal, with the moments you receive a test version. During the build you follow along in a test environment, so you always know where things stand. If something shifts, for example because texts arrive later, you hear about it straight away.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to have a website built?
At MDJI a business website is usually ready within three to six weeks. The schedule is always in the proposal.
How long does a one-page website take?
Less than a full website, because there is less to make. The schedule is in the proposal after the intake call.
What causes delays most often?
Texts and photos that arrive later than planned, and the time between a test version and the response to it.
Can it be faster?
Often, yes, if the texts and photos are ready, there is one decision-maker and feedback comes quickly. Discuss your deadline in the intake call.
